Home Remodeling

So, you're thinking of remodeling your house, but you're not quite sure what type of renovations you want to do. Different things like new furniture, additions, and painting different rooms can bring a whole new feel to your home, but it is important not to forget the exterior of your home.

Painting the exterior of your home holds many benefits and can be much easier to achieve than usually thought. A fresh coat of paint on the exterior of your home will recreate that new and polished look that the house had when it was first built, and by making the home look as beautiful as it did when it was new, you are increasing both the curb appeal and the real estate value of your home. By doing something as simple as repainting the exterior of your home, you could be doing a lot of favors for yourself and your family in the future.

As well as making the house look wonderful, putting a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of your house can actually protect the outdoor surfaces from damage. Some paint brands today offer exterior paint that protects against everything from rain to mold and dirt. The cost of these kinds of damages far exceeds that of a few gallons of exterior paint and a contractor!

Exterior paint can be beneficial both for financial reasons as well as bringing a fresh new feel to your home!

Deck or Patio?

When thinking about expanding the amount of space in your home, considering your outdoor options is always a good idea. Most people don't think about decks or patios as something they can add on to their home to increase space and curb appeal, but they certainly can. But, which one is the better option between decks and patios?

First, we must recognize the differences between patios and decks. A patio is usually placed directly on the ground, they usually have a concrete foundation but have also been known to be made out of stone, tile or even brick! A patio has more freedom of placement than a deck, as they are usually placed right near the house or somewhere off in the back yard.

A deck, on the other hand, is usually placed just above ground or higher. Unlike patios, decks are often made using wood or vinyl. Although decks do not provide as much freedom for placement as patios, you can add a deck to any level of your home, not just the ground level!

Home Renovation

Before you start any home improvement project, it is important to do the research about the project you wish to pursue. For example, let's say that you wish to paint a room in your house, it would be important for you to get some painting ideas and to learn a few key terms about the project, this way when you go to have a conversation with your contractor, it will flow that much smoother.

When you begin looking for information about your home renovation, there are a couple key things you should be looking for.

First, you need to have a clear goal for what you would like your renovation to look like. For example, if you have decided to paint a room in your house, you need to have a few ideas of the colors you wish your contractor to work with. You can't get where you're going, unless you know where you're going!

Second, you need to establish a clear and realistic budget for your renovation. The contractor you choose to hire will have to work within your budget, but it is up to you as the consumer to look around and see what you can do with the budget you have chosen. If the goal you have in mind is to repaint the exterior of your house, but the budget you choose simply does not allow for it to be completed, then you're at a loss here.

Keeping these two things in the back of your mind whilst looking for the information about your home renovation, will make process and the relationship with your contractor, that much more enjoyable.

Contractor & Customer Relationships

The consumer-contractor relationship can make or break your home improvement experience. Whether you are looking for an exterior paint job, and interior paint job, or simply some painting ideas, a mutual and respectful relationship with the contractor will make all the difference.

The responsibility for a good relationship between consumer and contractor is both the responsibility of the contractor and you as the consumer.

As the consumer it is important to remember that the contractor you have hired for any of your painting and home improvement needs, will need you to be open and communicate exactly what it is you desire. Be clear and concise about your wants and needs regarding the painting of a room or any other services you might need, this will ensure that the end product is at your standard and will make the job easier on the contractor's part.

Although it is important to be specific with what you want, it is also important to trust the experience and professional capabilities of the contractor you choose to hire. The contractor will need their own room when painting the exterior or painting the interior of your home. It is not a productive to hover over them, however, if something is not to your liking you should voice it.

It is the contractors responsibility once hired to remain professional, this means keeping appointment times and getting the paint jobs finished within the estimated times. Once a time line has been established between the contractor and the consumer, the contractor must keep it if they wish to continue and good relationship.
